1. GENERAL SUMMARY:
Perform a diversity of software engineering design and development tasks and related assignments. May assume project responsibility involving planning, scheduling, costs and coordinating the activities related to the development and completion of the project.
2. PRIMARY FUNCTION/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
a. Conduct preliminary analysis of design objectives to define optimum design criteria and operating characteristics of products.
b. Design software in accordance with design criteria and performance objectives.
c. Perform system design and resolve hardware/software implementation tradeoffs with hardware engineers.
d. Responsible for functional tests of software and hardware/software systems.
e. Prepare proposals, labor and cost estimates, and work schedules to meet completion dates and technical specifications.
f. Responsible for the preparation of software documentation, test procedures, instruction manuals and related information.
g. Maintain current knowledge regarding new developments and trends in software engineering and related fields.
h. May assume overall project responsibility.
i. Perform other related design assignments as required.
3. JOB COMPLEXITY:
Determine own practices and procedures and contribute to the development of new concepts with latitude for independent judgment. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives. Position provides new and varied work situations with a high degree of complexity involving resolution of conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard development tools or techniques and application of recently developed technical concepts. Errors in judgment may adversely affect company earnings and image and create delays. Extensive contacts within and outside the company.
4. SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS REQUIRED:
Wide application of software and interdisciplinary engineering principles, theories and concepts. Requires high degree of originality and ingenuity.
5. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with computer and software emphasis, or in Computer Science, with a minimum of 5 years practical experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
6. DOMAIN SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE
Embedded system design of microcontroller-based systems (test and measurement preferred). C, C++ and assembly language programming are used to develop user interface and measurement algorithms
